Talk abstract: Building Platforms for Data Scientists. Data scientists join King from a wide range of backgrounds, bringing different skill sets to bear. But the tasks they need to do are similar in nature, and as team size grows, it makes sense to provide great tools and platforms for them to work on. In this talk, I’ll discuss what these tasks are, the many (many) ways we’ve tried to support them in the past, and how to build a platform that data scientists love to use.
Bio: Rick joined King in 2014 after 16 years in academia, has worked in most of the data science roles across the company – from reporting to analytics to marketing tech to advertising – and these days focuses on encouraging best practice for data science by building, teaching and promoting platforms and tooling. He has a BSc in Maths and Computer Science from Imperial, a PhD in Computer Science with Astrophysics from Kent, and spent five years as a post-doctoral researcher in the field of visual analytics. He’s a passionate advocate for good data visualisation, and hates writing about himself in the third person.
